Ireland's Andrew Coscoran qualifies for 1500m World Championship final in Tokyo
"Andrew Coscoran produced the performance of his life to power into the 1500m final at the World Championships in Tokyo on Monday evening, the Balbriggan man kicking to fifth place in his semi-final in 3:35.65. The race was won by Dutch star Niels Laros in 3:35.50, with Coscoran showing impressive speed on the dash to the finish to secure one of six automatic qualifying spots."
"Earlier in the evening, Sarah Lavin came home fourth in her semi-final of the 100m hurdles, the Limerick hurdler clocking 12.86, which in the end was not enough to secure a place in the final as a non-automatic qualifier. Still, it was another solid showing from the experienced hurdler, who was ranked 28th in the world this year but finished 13th overall."
Andrew Coscoran produced a career-best performance to reach the 1500m final at the World Championships in Tokyo, finishing fifth in his semi-final in 3:35.65. Dutch runner Niels Laros won that semi-final in 3:35.50, and Coscoran used a strong sprint finish to claim one of six automatic qualifying spots. This marks Coscoran's first appearance in a global outdoor final after previous semi-final finishes at world and Olympic events. The 1500m final will take place Wednesday night, and Coscoran is also entered in the 5000m later in the week. Sarah Lavin finished fourth in her 100m hurdles semi-final in 12.86 and placed 13th overall.
