Kim Jong Un presided over the groundbreaking of a Memorial Museum of Combat Feats in Pyongyang to honor North Korean soldiers who died while deployed to Russia. He hailed the deployment as the start of a new history of militant solidarity and described the years of militant fraternity as guaranteeing long-term bilateral friendship at the cost of precious blood. The museum will include a cemetery, memorial hall and monument dedicated to overseas detachment soldiers. NATO, US and South Korean intelligence reported evidence of North Korean troops deployed to fight alongside Russian forces in 2024. Kim and Vladimir Putin later ratified a mutual defence pact.
