Nagasaki cathedral blesses a bell that replaces one destroyed by the US atomic bomb
Briefly

The Urakami Cathedral in Nagasaki has completed the restoration of its lost bell, known as the 'St. Kateri Bell of Hope,' nearly 80 years after its destruction by the U.S. atomic bomb in 1945. The bell was blessed by Archbishop Peter Michiaki Nakamura during a ceremony attended by over 100 participants. Fundraising for the restoration was led by James Nolan Jr., inspired by a local follower’s story about the bell. The newly restored bell will be hung in the cathedral on August 9, marking the anniversary of the bombing.
"I think it's beautiful and the bell itself is more beautiful than I ever imagined... I hope the bell will be a symbol of unity and that will bear the fruits of fostering hope and peace in a world where there is division and war and hurt."
The bell is scheduled to be hung inside the cathedral, filling the empty bell tower for the first time, on Aug. 9, the anniversary of the bombing.
