Tennis Great Roger Federer, In Town For Laver Cup, Helps Christen Courts at McLaren Park, Golfs With Alcaraz
"Legendary tennis champion Roger Federer is in San Francisco this week for the Laver Cup, the invitational tournament that pits European tennis players against other players from around the globe, and he was on hand Tuesday for the dedication of some newly surfaced public tennis courts at McLaren Park. It's Laver Cup week in San Francisco, and tennis fans will be geeking out down at the Chase Center starting Friday as match play begins between Team Europe and Team World."
"Tennis icon Roger Federer, who co-founded the Laver Cup in 2017, has already been in town for a few days, and he was spotted playing pickup tennis down at Stanford over the weekend. (Federer's agent, Tony Godsick, has a son who's currently a junior at Stanford, and Federer popped up on the campus last year as well, as SFGate reported.) Federer also was on hand for a press event at the public tennis courts at McLaren Park on Tuesday."
"The Laver Cup happens in a different city each year, and the organization donates funds to improve local tennis infrastructure, under the Laver Cup Legacy Project. This year's donation went to the renovation of the six courts at McLaren Park, including new springy surfaces and new drainage. "We could play a tournament on this court," Federer said, per the Chronicle, admiring the work that was completed over the summer at a cost of $110,000."
