On 29 January 2026 UK passport holders gained visa-free entry to China for stays under 30 days following high-level talks between Prime Minister Keir Starmer and President Xi Jinping. The policy aligns UK travellers with citizens of France, Germany, Italy, Australia and Japan and targets short-term business and leisure visits. New bilateral cooperation aims to grow partnerships across government and business in healthcare, financial and professional services, legal services, education and skills.
