World on the cusp of a new nuclear arms race, says SIPRI
Briefly

The SIPRI Yearbook highlights a surge in nuclear armament among the nine nuclear-armed states as global instability rises. Although the number of warheads may be decreasing in the US and Russia due to disarmament efforts, newer and more potent warheads are being developed elsewhere, particularly in China, India, and North Korea. SIPRI warns of a new arms race, facilitating concerns over future nuclear engagements, especially with states like China potentially adopting launch-on-warning capabilities. This poses significant risks to global security.
It's not just little bits and pieces here and there. It's everybody moving in that direction of upgrading, including the new nuclear weapon state of North Korea and the relatively new ones of Pakistan and India.
Although the number of nuclear warheads in the world is declining as the US and Russia gradually dismantle 1,000 retired warheads, new warheads are entering stockpiles and will eventually outpace these.
