The Pitt Wins Big at the 2026 WGA Awards
"I was supposed to host the awards this Saturday, a day of celebrating the hard work of artists in one of the strongest unions in the U.S. But could we really celebrate while the staff, who help support the union are asking to be heard of their needs? I'm honored to stand with them."
"Stephen Colbert accepted the Walter Bernstein Award, given to a guild member who shows 'a willingness to confront social injustice in the face of adversity,' per a WGA press release."
The Writers Guild of America held a divided awards ceremony this year. WGA-East successfully held their awards at Edison Ballroom in New York, where winners included Sinners for Original Screenplay, One Battle After Another for Adapted Screenplay, and The Pitt for Drama Series and New Series. Stephen Colbert received the Walter Bernstein Award for confronting social injustice. However, WGA-West canceled their ceremony due to an ongoing strike by the Writers Guild Staff Union. Comedian Atsuko Okatsuka, who was scheduled to host the WGA-West awards, instead headlined a fundraiser for the striking staff union, expressing solidarity with workers seeking recognition of their needs.
