""We met two or three days a week for six or seven hours a day and kind of powered through a zillion decisions," says Shetter, who's had a studio in LA for over two decades. "Katie would bring in a ton of new ideas or images she'd seen online, and we would go through them. It was very collaborative, and I think it was the only way we could get to where we got.""
"Although Jacobs made decisions quickly, she didn't begin with a specific decor vision; her only mandate was that the house be livable and functional. It was Shetter who helped her land on a palette of bold colors-pinks, blues, and yellows-and uplifting florals, seen throughout the house, but most exuberantly in a space off the living room dubbed the "games room.""
"a space off the living room dubbed the "games room." There, under a sloping beamed ceiling, an imperial yellow floral wallpaper by de Gournay (designed in collaboration with Erdem) pairs with a custom tufted sofa covered in flamingo pink velvet and a Bessarabian rug featuring oversized roses. "It's my favorite thing in the whole wide world," says Jacobs of the cosseting nook."
The renovation proceeded through intensive collaborative meetings held multiple days a week, enabling rapid decision-making and progress. The seven-month project involved replastering walls, renovating bathrooms, adding windows, and changing or refinishing floors across the 4,300-square-foot house. The client prioritized livability and functionality over a predefined decor scheme, and the designer introduced a palette of bold pinks, blues, yellows, and uplifting florals. Floral motifs appear throughout the home and peak in a games room that combines imperial yellow floral wallpaper, a flamingo-pink tufted sofa, and an oversized-rose Bessarabian rug. The client selected florals from fabrics presented by the designer.
