""I knew I wanted to make it feel like home," she says. "I didn't want to be hopping from place to place, so I hoped this would be a long-term stay.""
""All I can say is they reminded me of the shades you'd see in a dentist's office," she says. "I think the last time it was renovated was probably in the '80s.""
""the inspiration started with a picture of a kitchen I found online," Grace explains. "It turned out to be from Oaxaca, Mexico - although I didn't know that at the time.""
Grace calls the space her first real solo apartment and has lived there for five years. Multiple DIY upgrades were completed to personalize and modernize an originally muted, outdated interior. The kitchen featured dated colors described as reminiscent of a dentist's office and was likely last renovated in the 1980s, with peel-and-stick floor tile as the only liked feature. Design inspiration came from a photo of a kitchen from Oaxaca, Mexico, prompting green tiles and terracotta accents to honor Mexican heritage and cuisine. The backsplash and counters were among the first elements replaced using peel-and-stick materials.
