Guðrún Kristjándóttir, an Icelandic artist, and her husband Ævar Kristjánsson, a broadcaster, discovered a derelict farmstead in western Iceland after years of searching for a home. This remote location inspired them significantly, prompting them to work with Studio Bua for renovations aimed at creating a communal space. One notable feature is a ruined concrete barn, initially built in 1937, which will be transformed into usable buildings. The project symbolizes their deepening connection to the landscape and a shared family vision for the property.
"When our son found this place we bought the land with him and his wife, mainly to support them. It is quite different from our previous home."
"We were soon hooked on it. The architecture firm has been tasked with transforming the entire site, linking existing spaces to create a community of buildings."
