Beauty Bar, a nostalgic nightclub in the Mission District that closed two years ago, is set to reopen under new ownership in June 2023. The bar, known for its vintage beauty parlor aesthetic and unique features like vintage hair dryer chairs, is undergoing a comprehensive renovation while maintaining its classic layout. The popular mural on the venue's exterior, originally painted by local artist Deb in 2015, is also being restored. Owner Jahaziel Garay, a longtime San Francisco bartender, jumped at the opportunity to acquire the beloved establishment.
My friend calls me at 7 in the morning, and he says There's a bar for sale.' He had done that a couple times before, and I was like no, no, Garay tells us. But he said the magic words Beauty Bar.' I said, If it's Beauty Bar, I'll take it.
The mural has been here since 2015, and I'm the first person that was given this location to paint a mural, Deb says to SFist. It was a 1960s retro beauty parlor kind of a vibe.
