""It's brilliant to see so many young people choosing to get into birdwatching. This new research shows that watching birds is no longer a niche or old-fashioned pastime and is attracting a younger, more diverse crowd.""
Birdwatching has become the second fastest growing hobby for Generation Z, with nearly 750,000 individuals aged 16 to 29 in Britain participating regularly. This represents a staggering increase of 1,088% since 2018. Overall, birdwatching has seen a 47% rise across all generations in the past eight years. Millennials have experienced a 216% increase, while Gen X birders have increased by 66%. The trend is attributed to social media, making birdwatching more accessible and appealing to a younger audience.
