There's nothing like a freshly made burrito from your favorite Tex-Mex restaurant (or even your own kitchen, if you're following the right bean burrito recipe). But sometimes, you might crave the format of a burrito but not want to spend the money to buy one or the time to make one at home. That's when frozen burritos can come in handy.
This former laundromat in Hermosa Beach has a storied history as a Mexican, Cantonese, and dinner-focused bar and grill of the same name it now bears: Martha's. But since 2018, the legendary South Bay restaurant has become a daily gathering spot for seaside breakfast with some of the friendliest service in Los Angeles. It's also become a regular weekend brunch haunt for our family, where servers are quick to bring high chairs and crayons for kids and portions are big enough that takeout boxes seem prerequisite.
Angel's Tijuana Tacos recently introduced its own breakfast burrito, prompting me to make a beeline to its Anaheim location one morning. A staple of SoCal cuisine, I ordered my A.M.-hour beast with a duo of bacon and chorizo, delivering a salty, smoky and slightly spicy bite. The eggs were fluffy, lacking any of the rubbery slop that besmirches lesser breakfast burritos.
