The Kansas City Current have agreed to terms to hire Chris Armas as the team's new head coach, multiple sources confirmed to ESPN. The hiring is still being finalized and pending the standard league clearance of all coaches, but is expected to be confirmed imminently, sources added. Armas, a former United States player and MLS champion, most recently coached the Colorado Rapids before he and the team parted ways after the 2025 season.
McKay has had an interesting career, oscillating between coaching and front office roles. He had been a coach in college ball for a number of years, before working for the Rockies in the minors as peak performance coordinator. Then he spent a long time working in the Mariners' player development department, getting hired in October of 2015. That was not long after Jerry Dipoto had become Seattle's general manager. Dipoto and McKay had worked together with the Rockies.

He is the most recent player in league history to record more than 300 penalty minutes in a season, doing so in 2010-11 while with the New York Islanders. Konopka also played a total of 303 games in the AHL and was recently named part of the Syracuse Hockey Hall of Fame Class of 2025 for his contributions to the Syracuse Crunch.
