Government will abolish most short prison sentences, introduce an earned early-release model for fixed-term prisoners, and strengthen community punishments to prevent prison capacity crises.

Courts will gain power to impose travel, driving, venue and area bans along with other restrictions as tougher non-custodial sentences to deter reoffending.
