The gaming platform has seen sustained growth in recent years, with record-setting peaks happening more and more regularly. Although Steam has been around for over 20 years, its popularity has picked up dramatically in recent years--especially in the six years since the Covid-19 pandemic was officially declared.
Gearbox's Borderlands 4 officially launches on September 12, but it's already available for PC--and on Steam, it's putting up big numbers. Steam's own public stats show that Borderlands 4 is Steam's top-selling title globally and in the US. It has exceeded 175,000 concurrent players to rank as Steam's No. 4 most-played game today. The free-to-play FPS Delta Force had a big weekend on Steam. The team-based tactical shooter jumped up the charts and exceeded 210,000 peak concurrent players on Sunday, August 24--that was the all-time peak. The game's player numbers are holding strong, too, remaining above 170,000 right now. The game launched in December 2024 on Steam and reached more than 100,000 concurrent players at the time. Since then, the player numbers for Delta Force on Steam have grown, peaking this past Sunday.
