Ahead of the film's at-home premiere on Dec. 30, Universal released a peek at one of the cut moments included among For Good's bonus features. Shared by Entertainment Tonight, the flashback scene follows Elphaba, Glinda, Nessa, Boq, and Fiyero as they venture off the Shiz campus for a picnic. It's a delightful montage - not least because it includes the buzzy but previously unseen moment Fiyero and Boq go shirtless.
The romcom originally included a relationship between the headmistress (Anne Reid) of the school that hosts the final Christmas concert, and her partner Geraldine (Frances de la Tour). Deleted scenes show the headmistress return from school to find her partner, who is terminally ill, in bed. They laugh and drink wine, before it cuts to them sleeping in bed together, Geraldine painfully coughing.
The solution was an immersive intro in disguise as a retrospective on the Fantastic Four's many successes in their first four years, a whistle-stop tour of the team's constant line of defense against supervillains, plus Reed's scientific advances and Sue's diplomatic efforts. However, large chunks of these efforts - including whole characters - were left on the cutting room floor, and now we're starting to see bits and pieces of the original vision.
Dean DeBlois emphasized the importance of editing, stating, "Everything's sort of long-winded at first, and then you squeeze and you squeeze, and it eventually starts to paint targets on areas of the movie where you really feel the breaks being hit."
