Claire Dunbar scored for the Westchester Little League softball team, which celebrated a commanding 12-2 victory over Tucson to win the West Regional. The team now advances to the Little League World Series in Greenville, N.C.
Little League International stated that the Cacique Mara Little League team from Venezuela was unable to obtain the appropriate visas to travel to the Senior League Baseball World Series, and described this situation as extremely disappointing for the young athletes involved.
This summer, Staten Island has served as a hub for youth baseball, hosting Little League District 24 and some Section 3 South play for teams from Staten Island and across the city.
"So I guess it's only fitting that the street he spent so many years parked on now bears his name. He will constantly be a presence here at Staten Island Little League."
