The Pittsburgh Steelers have reached an agreement to hire Mike McCarthy as their next coach, the team announced. McCarthy is set to succeed Mike Tomlin while becoming only the team's fourth head coach since Chuck Noll was hired way back in 1969. A Pittsburgh native, the 62-year-old McCarthy took the 2025 season off after spending the previous five seasons as the Dallas Cowboys' coach.
On Monday night, the "Fire Tomlin" chants started midway through the fourth quarter, as the Houston Texans turned a defensive slugfest into a blowout 30-6 loss in the AFC wild card round, handing the Steelers their seventh straight playoff loss. While fans began streaming out of the stadium after the Texans went up 18 points on Woody Marks' 13-yard touchdown run, those who stayed behind relentlessly booed and called for Tomlin's dismissal over the final 3-and-a-half minutes of the Steelers' season.

"I'm certainly expecting Cam to play," Tomlin said in his weekly news conference Tuesday. "Cam doesn't play a lot in team development over the last several years. My job is to get him in and out of Latrobe, and I've done my job. And so, there are no reservations about his participation or his readiness. I'm sure he's chopping at the bit."
