The group of 15 young people had travelled from Milan to Crans-Montana, some of them crossing the border by car, others by train, to celebrate New Year's Eve. The Swiss ski resort was well known to them, having spent summers here with their families, and a big draw was marking the new year in the bar that in recent years had become known as the place to be.
Several people have been killed and others injured after an explosion ripped through a bar in the luxury Alpine ski resort town of Crans Montana, Swiss police have said. There has been an explosion of unknown origin, Gaetan Lathion, a police spokesman in Wallis canton in southwestern Switzerland, told the news agency AFP. He said the explosion took place at about 1:30am (00:30 GMT) in a bar called Le Constellation, which is popular with tourists, as revellers rang in the new year.
Cooper let out a giant cackle when the snake was draped around Kaye and things only escalated from there. Will he give me a kiss? Let's see, Kaye said. She then kissed the snake and let out a hearty laugh of her own, before saying It's going to be a long night. Cooper could barely watch because he was chuckling so hard, instead opting to bend over and place his head on the railing nearby.
CNN hosts Anderson Cooper and Andy Cohen struggled to operate large puppets of themselves on Wednesday as they became increasingly tipsy during their New Year's Eve Live show. A little after 10pm, with still two hours to go until the New Year's Eve countdown, Cohen could be heard slurring his words and remarking, Anderson and I are transitioning as the night goes on into drunkards. The two then took another shot before pulling out large, almost life-size puppets in their likeness.

If you needed one more reason to brave the barricades, and the very real possibility of losing feeling in your toes: Diana Ross will ring in 2026 from the heart of the freezing temps Times Square tonight, just minutes before the ball drops. The legendary icon is set to take the Countdown Stage at 11:37pm on "Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve with Ryan Seacrest," performing a medley of her hits that includes "I'm Coming Out" and "Upside Down."
Imagine a beautifully appointed rooftop lounge right on the water, skyline views in all directions. Vaulted ceilings, gold trim, velvet seats, lighting so dark that even on a tame night it encouraged all sorts of bad behavior. The kind of bar where you'd learn more about human anatomy just by watching the crowd than you ever thought possible. I'm pretty sure I received an MD after working there.
As 2025 draws to a close, Google has unveiled a special New Year's Eve Doodle celebrating the global excitement of the final countdown to 2026. Displayed on Google's homepage across many regions, the festive artwork captures the joy, energy and anticipation of the moment, serving as a reminder that time is moving quickly and a new year is about to begin.

People will be barred from watching London's New Year's Eve fireworks from a popular beauty spot where thousands usually flock to celebrate. The park in Camden has panoramic views of the capital and in 2024 an estimated 30,000 revellers marked the beginning of year at the park. As officers prepare for one of the busiest nights of the year for emergency services, the force reminded Londoners and visitors not to try and gather in Primrose Hill as they have been able to in previous years.
"Dear San Francisco" has held a residency at Club Fugazi since 2021, when it replaced long-standing fan favorite "Beach Blanket Babylon." The show features an athletic cast of circus performers in what's essentially a San Francisco-themed take on Cirque du Soleil. The 90-minute show runs from Wednesdays through Sundays and features singing, spoken word, acrobatics and interactive elements. It takes a relentlessly optimistic lens on the city, making it hands-down one of most family-friendly activities San Francisco has to offer.
For the 17th year in a row, Muni will be free on New Year's Eve, starting at 8 pm on the night of December 31. That free service continues all the way until 5 am on the morning of Thursday, January 1, 2026. But do not tag your Clipper card or phone getting on the train or bus, or entering gates at a station, because you will be charged if you do that.
In the spirit of Sinatra and the Rat Pack, two-time Grammy winner Nicole Zuraitis steps into the glow of Vic's Supper Club in Las Vegas. She performs songs of her own and reimagines favorites by Dolly Parton and Fleetwood Mac as well as timeless standards, all while host Christian McBride takes us inside the bluesy improviser's unexpected rise to stardom.
However, since the SoCal location of the beloved jazz club franchise opened its doors, it's kicked off with a memorable run of sold-out shows and iconic moments, like Stevie Wonder joining Robert Glasper on stage last week. So, given all that has transpired in this unique opening year of 2025, the team at Blue Note knew their first New Year's Eve show had to be noteworthy.
Police have asked Londoners to avoid certain areas as the force gears up for one of the busiest nights of the year. Met Police officers told New Year's Eve revellers to plan their night in advance, including checking Tube, bus and rail updates before leaving the house. The force asked people to consider attending local events rather than heading into central London, which will be awash with thousands of people ringing in the new year on Wednesday December 31.
Parts of the UK have been placed under an amber health alert as Brits prepare to ring in the 2026 New Year's celebrations amid frosty conditions. Snow may be in store for some parts of the country, with temperatures dipping to -4 degrees, and there are even reports that the first week of January may see a sprinkling of snow in London. But what about New Year's Eve?
New Year's Eve has always struck me as the most treacherous of nights. Not because of the drink, or the fireworks, or the pressure of staying awake past midnight (although that alone should qualify as an endurance sport). Like Valentine's Day and your birthday, what makes New Year's Eve perilous is the collective insistence that this night has to deliver: the best meal, the best party, the best version of ourselves.
As the crowd cheered among the explosive crackle of fireworks, upbeat dance music, and cries of " Feliz Ano Novo," a surge of gratitude coursed through my body. It was New Year's Eve 2024, and I was hugging and cheering with new friends I had met just hours before. Earlier that year, I'd spent two months gallivanting around London, Berlin, Amsterdam, Rome, Florence, and Prague solo. Although I loved returning home to San Francisco, it didn't take long for my wanderlust to set in again.

Hosting New Year's Eve is truly an exercise in multitasking. You need to generate excitement at the start, keep food and drinks flowing, and build anticipation toward the midnight countdown. My strategy is to plan a menu that is deceptively simple, allowing the host to actually enjoy the party. I look to one of my favorite large-format meals: the Korean Bo Ssam, popularized by Momofuku Ssam Bar.
