Los Angeles Dodgers two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani made an appearance in Arizona on Wednesday, nine days before pitchers and catchers report to Camelback Ranch for spring training. While there, Ohtani played catch and did a photo shoot. Emmet Sheehan and Anthony Banda also reported early. Pitchers and catchers are set to arrive at Camelback Ranch Feb. 13, and the rest of the team will report Feb. 17 for the first full-squad workout of the season. Their opening game of spring training comes against the Los Angeles Angels later that week on Feb. 21.
The Pirates are making several changes to their coaching staff. Pitching coach Oscar Marin will not have his contract renewed, as first reported by Jon Heyman of The New York Post. Assistant pitching coach Brent Strom and third-base coach Mike Rabelo will also not be returning, per Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. It was earlier reported that GM Ben Cherington and manager Don Kelly would remain in their current roles.
Lauer to the Bullpen It's hard to imagine where the Blue Jays would be this season if not for the emergence of Eric Lauer. With Max Scherzer on the shelf for the first half of the season, and with Bowden Francis unable to replicate his 2024 success, the journeyman lefty was called up at the end of April, and immediately provided relief to a beleaguered staff.
I tried to stay loose -- we had a long inning. Then I went out there and made my three warmup pitches (before the sixth) low-to-mid intensity, and I felt the same thing. If it felt that way, then if I try to make a max-effort throw to get the inning started, you wonder what could happen.
