No one will ever mistake this for a tilt-up building in an industrial park. This is the Mormon temple being built adjacent to Interstate 5 on San Diego's affluent northern edge. After all, how many San Diego buildings have a multiterraced design, 190-foot twin spires and a 14-foot-tall gold leaf statue of the angel Moroni atop one of the spires facing eastward and blowing his prophetic trumpet? Try none.

That's exactly what Fernando Menis pulled off with the Holy Redeemer Church and Community Centre of Las Chumberas in Tenerife, and the architecture world just named it the 2025 World Building of the Year at the World Architecture Festival. Located on the outskirts of La Laguna, Spain, this isn't your typical church.

"I want to suggest to the commission, but to the city really, that the most difficult aspect that the commission will face, has faced, is facing now, and will face for the foreseeable future, is this issue of religious architecture in the city."

The Church of St. Ann and the Holy Trinity in Brooklyn Heights received $45,000 for tower and facade restoration as part of 16 Sacred Sites Grants totaling $261,500.
