The Sunday Miscellany theme tune, a beloved fixture for nearly two decades, has been removed by the public service broadcaster.
"It's so evocative. I'm surprised they got rid of it," Duffy said. "It's written by Stockton's Wing, Mike Hanrahan and the boys. I used to meet Mike in the old radio centre when he was in, doing bits of work." "And he'd always say to me, at least once a year: 'Thanks, we got the Lanzarote this year off it'. I just think it's evocative. And the programme is in a very hard time, a quarter to two. So you need something, a call to listen," he told The Pat Kenny Show on Newstalk.
The new schedule is set to kick off from next Monday, November 10. Morning Ireland remains in place from 7am to 9am, with the first change coming from 9am when Today with David McCullagh takes up a new 9am-11am slot. McCullagh is taking on presenting duties for the Today programme following the departure of Claire Byrne, who is set to make the move over to Newstalk and replace Pat Kenny on the commercial station's mid-morning show.
Mr Hanrahan described presenting the show for the last 30 years as an "honour" and a "joy". "For me, every night was a highlight, whether we were in someone's home, the local pub, the parish hall or the National Concert Hall," he said.
Listening to the brilliant and charming CNN presenter John King on RTÉ1's Sunday with Miriam was so enjoyable, it struck me that we're probably in a lot more trouble in this world than we think.
