Alwa Gordon has announced his performance on July 18 at The Loft as part of the Stop Drop and Roll radio show series, where he will be featured alongside interviews and meet-and-greet opportunities.

Santa Cruz police are warning parked vehicle owners to closely inspect recent parking tickets issued in the beach areas due to reports of fraudulent citations.

It's kind of devastating, because for years, I've been coming out here and being able to look down to see the seals and stuff like that.

"Rebuilding all of the destroyed section...will cost roughly $14 million. A restaurant, a restroom building and popular sea lion viewing areas are gone."

Each year, lightning strikes the United States approximately 25 million times, with the majority of these electrifying events occurring during the summer months.

"We had a very large northwest swell with a low tide during that time, and the transit out of the harbor and into the ocean was very dangerous."

The beach cut-through traffic is also increasingly becoming a safety hazard, residents say. In an area that's already particularly prone to wildfires, and whose residents are particularly concerned about emergency preparedness.

David Koons, a 64-year-old Watsonville resident, tragically died after becoming trapped in floating debris while swimming during high surf warnings near Sunset State Beach. Emergency responders were called at 11:30 a.m., but by then, 150 feet of the Santa Cruz Municipal Wharf had already washed away due to large waves hitting the coastline.

At the time the Wharf collapsed, we were on the Cowell side about one quarter of the way to the end of the Wharf, just getting ready to do another patrol. And that's when something alerted me to look out at the end of the Wharf, which I believe was the cracking of the pilings.
