Unusually warm January air coincided with multiple Spare the Air alerts as particulate pollution neared unhealthy levels and a high-pressure bubble trapped pollution and created tule fog.

The Bay Area will increase Spare the Air alerts to roughly 19–41 days per year, banning residential fireplace, fire-pit, and wood-stove burning with limited exemptions.
