Congressional authority and oversight over military operations has eroded, allowing the executive branch to conduct covert actions without timely notification or accountability.
On Saturday, the U.S. conducted a "large-scale strike" against Venezuela and said that Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, had been captured and flown out of the country. Trump announced the operation on social media hours after the attack. The Venezuelan government called it an "imperialist attack" and urged citizens to take to the streets. Attorney General Pam Bondi said Maduro and Flores, would face charges after an indictment in New York.
So far, there has been no official reaction from the Chavista regime to the announcement made by Donald Trump regarding the attack that U.S. forces allegedly carried out on Venezuelan soil against previously identified drug trafficking targets presumably linked to the Tren de Aragua criminal organization. The operation, carried out with drones earlier this month, is the first military aggression by a United States government against Venezuela in its entire history.
