A 43-year-old man from Chile died following an accident in Blue Sky Basin at Vail Mountain on February 28th.
Vail Mountain has recorded its lowest snowpack in 47 years, with just 67 inches of snow so far this season. It has been a tough season so far for many resorts located in the Rockies and out West. "We experienced one of the worst early-season snowfalls in the Western U.S. in over 30 years," Rob Katz, Chief Executive Officer, said in a press release. This has limited Vail Mountain and other resorts from opening new terrain and has decreased skier visits.
Two men were injured Monday after falling from the Mountaintop Express Lift (No. 4) at Vail Mountain, according to statements from the resort and reporting from the Vail Daily. A 59-year-old man from Sherman Oaks, California, and a 21-year-old man from Rancho Palos Verdes, California, fell from the high-speed quad and were transported to Vail Health Hospital, Vail Mountain spokesperson Michelle Dallal confirmed in an email shared by the Vail Daily. Their conditions were not immediately available.
