We're going to be seeing very strong and gusty southwesterly winds moving in across the country. With regards where we're going to see those strongest winds, it's most likely it's going to be blustery everywhere, like you know, but it's along those Atlantic coasts that we're going to see the brunt of those winds, parts of the northwest and south.
The pattern change began Monday when the barometric pressure surrounding the region started to fall gradually. That increase in low pressure is coming from the southwest and the air is flowing north, opposite of many winter low-pressure systems that dip in from the Pacific Northwest. As a result, light but steady rain is expected to start in Monterey County and the Central Coast late Tuesday morning. The rain is expected to reach the region closer to San Francisco sometime Tuesday night, Murdock said.
South winds 10 to 20 mph with gusts up to 40 mph, can be expected according to the NWS Sacramento CA. Breezy to gusty southerly winds are expected through the afternoon, gradually decreasing by the evening. Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects and holiday decorations. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result, the NWS said. Gusty winds can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. Use extra caution. Secure outdoor objects.
The advisory is valid from Tuesday 4 p.m. until Thursday Dec. 25, at 4 p.m. The NWS Hanford CA said, South winds 15 to 25 mph with gusts to 40 mph expected. Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result, the NWS said. Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. Use extra caution.
According to the NWS Reno NV, Now is the time to secure loose outdoor items such as patio furniture, holiday decorations, and trash cans before winds increase which could blow these items away. The best thing to do is prepare ahead of time by making sure you have extra food and water on hand, flashlights with spare batteries and/or candles in the event of a power outage.
