A place where I was immensely happy, where you made me feel a thousand times the happiest person in the world. "I hope that one day I can return, and not just to say goodbye as a player, as I never got to do...""
"The official line from Barcelona, who confirmed the news of Messi's visit two hours after the post was published on Instagram, was that he turned up at the stadium and asked to be let in by security firm Limak, who in turn contacted the club for permission to allow the eight-time Ballon d'Or access. However, Catalan sports publication Mundo Deportivo say they have been in touch with the Messi camp, who insist no permission was sought or granted by Barca."
Lionel Messi visited Camp Nou overnight and posted pictures on Instagram, marking his first trip to the stadium since leaving in 2021. Messi flew into Barcelona from the United States en route to Alicante to join the Argentina national team for an upcoming friendly. He had earlier scored twice and provided two assists as Inter Miami beat Nashville 4-0 to reach the MLS Eastern Conference semi-finals. Barcelona say Messi asked security to be let in and permission was sought; Mundo Deportivo report the Messi camp deny any permission was requested or granted. The stadium remains under reconstruction until late 2026.
