"It might have taken decades to be realized, but when Star Wars finally got a manga adaptation in 1997, it was a work of art. Illustrated by mangaka Hisao Tamaki, his work on capturing the magic of Star Wars: Episode 4 - A New Hope into a manga format is being collected into a new art book by Dark Horse Books."
"The Art of Star Wars: A New Hope - The Manga, Vol. 1 only covers the initial part of the New Hope manga, but the official Star Wars manga series continued beyond Tamaki's run with similar adaptations of The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi, and the first prequel film, The Phantom Menace--all of which are handled by different artists."
Hisao Tamaki's 1997 manga adaptation of Star Wars: Episode 4 — A New Hope is being collected into a hardcover art book by Dark Horse Books. A successful Kickstarter campaign enabled the collection of Tamaki's original art boards for the project. The hardcover, priced at $50, will be released on June 16, 2026, and is available to preorder through Amazon. Volume 1 covers only the initial part of the New Hope manga. The wider Star Wars manga series continued with adaptations of The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi, and The Phantom Menace by other artists. Print editions of the manga are scarce, but digital Kindle editions of the 14-volume run remain available. The Mandalorian also has an ongoing manga by Yusuke Osawa, and Star Wars has recent anime offerings in the Visions anthology with related manga anthologies.
