"Community Teamwork, Inc. and Lowell Public Schools, both located on Merrimack Street, are providing emergency housing support, school resources, and other related services, city officials said. The American Red Cross also offers disaster relief support at 1-800-564-1234 and at RedCross.org."
Fire officials said flames spread quickly because of high winds, dry conditions, and close proximity between homes. The fire struck the Centralville neighborhood Tuesday, starting shortly before 3 p.m. at a four-family home on Bridge Street. Burning embers spread across multiple homes, reaching Wachusett Street and May Street, requiring crews to fight several fires at once. Firefighters from surrounding communities assisted. Two firefighters were hospitalized for heat exhaustion and smoke inhalation. Local nonprofits and city officials coordinated help for victims, including basic needs, emergency housing, food, toiletries, clothing vouchers, essential items, and disaster relief resources. The American Red Cross provided support via phone and its website.
