Rebuilding Brooklyn: 14-story mixed-use building includes rooftop skyline views
"“This is where, sort of, old Brooklyn meets new Brooklyn in a way that feels real and unforced,” said Elizabeth Canela, director of development for Ailanthus."
"“You notice that the architecture steps up to give people living in the building various vantage points,” said Bhaskar Srivastava, architect and founder of DENCITYWORKS Architecture. “It's all response to the landform, and that's what makes it unique.”"
"“You have a co-working lounge, as well as a double-height gym, a couple of different outdoor private spaces and dining areas, as well as a stunning 14th-floor rooftop with wrap-around of the Brooklyn waterfront and the Manhattan and Brooklyn skylines,” said Vivian Liao, co-founder and principal of Ailanthus."
"“The building quite literally helps support the infrastructure of the neighborhood from the pedestrian experience, making it feel safer, and really just making something that's well-rounded and feels like it belongs in the neighborhood even though it's new,” said Canela."
One Sunset is a 14-story mixed-use building at 4th Avenue and 25th Street in Sunset Park. The design connects old Brooklyn and new Brooklyn by responding to the landform near the historic Battle Hill, with architecture stepping up to provide varied vantage points. The building offers 187 affordable and market-rate one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments and uses all-electric systems. Amenities include a co-working lounge, a double-height gym, multiple outdoor private spaces and dining areas, and a 14th-floor rooftop with wrap-around views of the Brooklyn waterfront and Manhattan and Brooklyn skylines. The rooftop includes a near-complete mural honoring Sunset Park. Ground level includes 6,200 square feet of commercial retail space that supports neighborhood infrastructure and pedestrian safety.
