According to police sources, cops from the 73rd Precinct and NYPD Public Service Area 2 received a 911 call of a person shot outside of the Van Dyke Houses located at 375 Blake Ave. in Brownsville just after 3 p.m. on Mother's Day, May 10. Upon arrival, officers discovered 18-year-old Quahmir Cruz with a gunshot wound to the chest."
"EMS rushed him to Brookdale Hospital, where he could not be saved and he was pronounced dead. Cruz lived just across the street from where he was gunned down. Police did not immediately have a description of the shooter or a direction of flight. So far, no arrests have been made in the case."

On April 29, 17-year-old Jonathan Melo was stabbed to death in the Bronx, allegedly by a social media personality in an online beef. Earlier, on April 16, a Queens community was left in tatters after 15-year-old Jaden Pierre was shot dead in a caught-on-camera attack inside a public park."
