Sonder announced an immediate wind-down of operations and plans to file for Chapter 7 bankruptcy while initiating insolvency proceedings internationally. The company said liquidation of its U.S. business is the only viable path forward after exploring alternatives. Marriott terminated its licensing agreement with Sonder and stated its priority is supporting guests currently staying at Sonder properties and those with upcoming reservations, and that it will contact guests who booked through Marriott channels. Shares of Sonder plunged more than 64% amid reports of employees learning of job losses from news and guests being told to vacate rentals immediately.
