Prices at the pump are the lowest since the pandemic and still falling-just in time for record-high holiday travel | Fortune
"We are looking at prices not seen since about March 2021, almost five years ago. That's certainly great news for motorists,"
"That's delivering a weekly savings of nearly $400 million [nationwide] compared to just this time last year when prices were 12.3 cents higher per gallon."
"Christmas is often when gas prices settle near the lowest levels of the year, and 2025 is no exception,"
"Refinery maintenance has wrapped up, supplies are rising, and winter demand is much lower than in summer-all of which help keep a lid on prices."
U.S. gasoline prices have dropped below an average of $3 per gallon, with regular unleaded averaging $2.85 after a recent 4.5 cent weekly decline and a 22 cent monthly fall. The U.S. crude benchmark reached $55 per barrel, the lowest since early 2021. Rising oil production from OPEC and the U.S., completed refinery maintenance, increasing supplies, and weaker winter demand are reducing fuel costs. AAA projects a record 122.4 million Americans will travel at least 50 miles beginning Dec. 20, with 109.5 million expected to drive.
