13-year-old girl dies after shooting in front of California elementary school
"A 13-year-old girl has died following a shooting across the street from an elementary school in San Bernardino on Wednesday, Oct. 29. Crews responded at 12:50 p.m. Wednesday to the 1200 block of North G Street, where they found a girl who had been shot, according to the San Bernardino County Fire Protection District. Paramedics pronounced the girl dead at the scene, across the street from Riley College Prep Academy."
"The girl previously attended San Bernardino City Unified schools. She was not enrolled in our district at the time of her passing, but we know this news is painful for many who remember her, the district said in a statement. The girl and the suspect, who police believe was also a juvenile, were talking before the shooting, which occurred in the back of an apartment complex, said Capt. Nelson Carrington with San Bernardino police."
"Officers found a firearm in the area that they believe was used in the shooting. No arrests have been made, and the shooting remains under investigation. The victim and suspect don't have ties to Riley College Prep Academy, and Carrington said police don't believe there's a threat to the school or community. Riley College Prep Academy was placed on a precautionary hold with students staying in their classrooms and continuing to learn while staff and school district police ensured the situation was handled, district officials said."
