A Huntington Beach man reported that he and his wife were riding scooters near the beachside path when a bottle was thrown from a group of teenagers on e-bikes. He said he was knocked to the ground and then kicked and stomped by multiple people while trying to move through the crowd. Police said two people reported a confrontation around 8 p.m. on Saturday and that a minor was detained and cited for misdemeanor battery. Huntington Beach police continued investigating the incident. The city has seen increased e-bike group rides organized through social media, sometimes involving hundreds of riders. The day before the attack, the city conducted an operation targeting illegal e-bikes and electric motorcycles and issued 32 citations. E-bikes in California must display a classification number tied to speed and motor wattage, with three classes defined by throttle and top speed limits.
