"(Spencer Gallichan-Lowe/CBC) James Michael, with TM Towing, spoke to CBC News early afternoon on Sunday. He said the day had already been pretty crazy in terms of business and said he expected it to continue throughout the day. The roads are wet and all it takes for everyone to crash is just a slippery road, he said. Some air travel was also impacted by the snow."
Up to 10 cm of snow fell across the Greater Toronto Area on Sunday, marking the earliest occurrence of more than 5 cm since 1969. The snowfall created hazardous driving conditions and prompted the Ontario Provincial Police to respond to more than 140 collisions during the day, with many incidents described as rollovers. Sgt. Kerry Schmidt urged drivers to prepare for unpredictable winter conditions, install winter tires for traction, reduce speed, brush snow off vehicles and use lights for visibility. A tow-truck operator reported heavy call volumes as wet, slippery roads led to crashes. NAV Canada warned of delays at YYZ and advised travellers to check flight status.
