James Chiu, co-founder of the popular Mandarin buffet chain, died at 78 after a battle with pulmonary fibrosis. He immigrated to Canada from Taiwan in 1963 and opened his first restaurant, Sweet `N Sour, after studying business. In 1979, he and his family purchased a small restaurant in Brampton, which evolved into the Mandarin buffet concept. The chain now has 29 locations in Ontario and is known for its community contributions, exceptional food, and customer service.
