"Their Advertisement was to be taken down, IMMEDIATELY, but they let it run last night during the World Series, knowing that it was a FRAUD,"
"Because of their serious misrepresentation of the facts, and hostile act, I am increasing the Tariff on Canada by 10% over and above what they are paying now."
"I had no intention of meeting Carney there."
President Donald Trump announced a plan to raise tariffs on Canadian goods by an additional 10% in response to an Ontario television ad that used Ronald Reagan's words. Ontario Premier Doug Ford said he would pull the ad after the weekend; the ad aired during the World Series. The timing and scope of the 10% increase were not immediately clear. Canada's economy is highly dependent on U.S. exports, with many products already facing steep tariffs: about 35% on many goods, 50% on steel and aluminum, and 10% on energy, while some USMCA-covered goods are exempt. Trump and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney are both attending an ASEAN summit, but Trump stated he would not meet Carney there. The USMCA trade agreement is slated for review, and Trump has grown dissatisfied with the deal he negotiated in his first term.
