"Far more surprising than Gen Z lateness was how forgiving millennials were of this generational flaw. But while around 40pc of them said they would overlook colleagues running 10 minutes behind schedule, this dropped to just 26pc for Gen X and 20 per cent for baby boomers."
Research compiled by an online meeting company reports that almost half of people aged 16 to 26 consider being five to 10 minutes late to work “basically” being on time. Punctuality is framed as a sign of respect and an acknowledgment of professional hierarchy, where some people and responsibilities matter more than personal preferences. It is also described as mental discipline, requiring effort even when there is no obvious reason to be at a specific time. The piece contrasts this with millennials, who were more forgiving of lateness than Gen X and baby boomers, with lower percentages overlooking colleagues running behind schedule.
