Associate job satisfaction at law firms is driven largely by factors beyond compensation. Only 9.4% of associates prioritize money. Most associates value clear and abundant commitment to accelerate their careers, meaningful and hyper-relevant training, high-impact mentoring, and a clear internal career growth path. Strong job satisfaction is itself a core priority. Targeted support for women associates’ distinct needs is also important. Associates further value having at least one partner actively invested in their success. Across more than 5,000 responses, 189 firms performed best for associate job satisfaction, and 36 firms were consistently recognized as keeping associates happy.
