Kyle Hendricks, 35, is retiring after 12 major-league seasons. He played the 2024 season with the Los Angeles Angels, going 8-10 with a 4.76 ERA. Hendricks spent his first 11 seasons with the Chicago Cubs, winning 97 games and posting a 3.68 ERA with the club, and he won the 2016 ERA title while helping the Cubs win the World Series. Drafted by the Texas Rangers in 2011 and acquired by the Cubs in 2012, he debuted in 2014 and relied on a change-up/sinker mix and sub-90 mph fastball. He earned the nickname "The Professor," mentored younger pitchers, and received a Wrigley Field farewell after a final 7 1/3 shutout-inning start.
