Former Can't Miss-Prospect Alek Thomas Trade to the Dodgers - Bleacher Nation
"Alek Thomas Traded to Dodgers Source: #Dbacks have traded OF Alek Thomas to the #Dodgers. Thomas was DFA last week.- Steve Adams (@Adams_Steve) May 12, 2026 Thomas had been slashing .181/.222/.340 (54 wRC+) at the time of the DFA, but has been rating out well defensively in center field (and he's stolen four bases). Now, he's off to the Dodgers, who will assume $1.4M remaining on Thomas' arbitration salary and send back minor league outfielder Jose Requena."
"There was a time in the not-so-distant past when Diamondbacks center fielder Alek Thomas was a borderline can't-miss prospect. A second-round pick from the 2018 MLB Draft, Thomas reached Triple-A as a 21-year-old and slashed .369/.434/.658 (159 wRC+) while playing center field. And that earned him a call-up to The Show in 2022."
"The Dodgers don't have a backup center fielder behind Andy Pages, which is probably why they grabbed Alek Thomas in the first place (to say nothing of just gambling on any latent upside remaining), though he does have one minor league option remaining, so he could hang out at Triple-A until they need him."
Alek Thomas, once a top prospect for the Diamondbacks, was designated for assignment after struggling offensively in parts of five big league seasons. At the time of the DFA, he hit .181/.222/.340 with a 54 wRC+. His defensive performance in center field has been strong, and he has stolen four bases. The DFA resulted in a trade to the Los Angeles Dodgers, who will assume $1.4M of his remaining arbitration salary and receive minor league outfielder Jose Requena in return. The Dodgers acquired him as a center-field option behind Andy Pages and may keep him at Triple-A due to his remaining minor league option.
