Dallas Cowboys put a 'poison pill' in the Micah Parsons deal
"Both the Green Bay Packers and Dallas Cowboys included "poison-pill conditions" in the trade that sent Micah Parsons to Green Bay and Kenny Clark to Dallas before the start of the 2025 season, per ESPN's Adam Schefter and other media outlets. Both teams used the condition to prevent outgoing players from eventually ending up back in the division with rivals."
"Like I noted above, it makes sense on the surface, but when you actually read that, why would the Packers turn around and trade Parsons after making this blockbuster deal? It is more realistic honestly for Dallas to trade Kenny Clark back into the NFC North, they won't do it, but at face value that would make more sense, so I understand the point of the poison pill, it just made me laugh a little bit."
Both the Green Bay Packers and Dallas Cowboys added poison-pill conditions to the trade sending Micah Parsons to Green Bay and Kenny Clark to Dallas before the 2025 season. The conditions prevent either team from trading the acquired player to a rival division team without owing the other a 2028 first-round pick. If the Packers trade Parsons to the Eagles, Giants, or Commanders in 2025–26, Green Bay must send a 2028 first-rounder to Dallas. If the Cowboys trade Clark to the Bears, Lions, or Vikings in 2025–26, Dallas must send a 2028 first-rounder to Green Bay. The clause aims to stop immediate flips to division rivals.
