"When I began designing my own house in the center of Amami Island, I never imagined it would eventually be disconnected from the power grid. Yet, as environmental degradation accelerates and extreme weather becomes the norm, that choice became inevitable. The decision was catalyzed by a mountain I purchased three years earliera place where I began developing my own micro-infrastructure to live independently, preparing for unforeseen crises while envisioning new forms of resilience in aging, depopulated regions."

A house in the center of Amami Island was designed to be disconnected from the power grid. Accelerating environmental degradation and increasing extreme weather made off-grid operation inevitable. A purchased mountain served as the site for developing micro-infrastructure to enable independent living. The micro-infrastructure was intended to prepare for unforeseen crises. The project aims to model new forms of resilience. Special attention was given to conditions in aging, depopulated regions and to sustaining habitation without reliance on centralized utilities.
