Alameda County DA's race: Supporters weigh in on the candidates
"The contest could be decided in June if one of the candidates secures more than 50% of the vote. If not, the two top vote-getters will head to a runoff in November. The Registrar of Voters mailed ballots to all registered voters on May 4, and 24-hour ballot drop boxes opened the same day. Some voting centers will open on May 23; the last day to vote is June 2, election day, and preliminary results should be posted by 8 p.m."
The Alameda County District Attorney race offers three candidates for the June 2 primary. Ursula Jones Dickson, a veteran prosecutor, promises to prioritize crime victims and ensure capable management of the DA’s office, and she has out-fundraised her opponents combined with support from city and county officials and many deputy DAs. Pamela Price, a civil rights attorney and long-time prosecutor, seeks prosecutorial reform and gained momentum after 2020 protests following George Floyd’s murder. Gopal Krishan, a family law attorney and political newcomer, emphasizes immigrant rights, tough stances on hate crimes and organized crime, and argues the office needs fresh air. A candidate winning more than 50% avoids a November runoff. Ballots were mailed May 4, drop boxes opened the same day, some voting centers open May 23, and voting ends June 2 with preliminary results expected by 8 p.m.
