Irish citizens stranded on hantavirus-hit cruise ship to be flown home and will quarantine in HSE facility
"The Department of Health said the two Irish citizens will be transferred directly to Ireland from Tenerife and will be quarantined in a HSE facility. In a statement issued Saturday night, the department confirmed that the ship is currently expected to dock in Tenerife early on Sunday. "We understand that the two Irish passengers are currently well. Public health protocols will be followed once the ship has docked with regard to certification and assessment of the health of passengers. This will be overseen by the ECDC and the Spanish authorities.""
"It continued: "Repatriation plans have been put in place by the Irish Government to transfer the two Irish passengers directly from Tenerife to Ireland upon disembarkation, contingent on their health status. "On arrival in Ireland, they will be safely transferred to a HSE facility. They will need to quarantine for a period of time, in line with ECDC guidance and will be actively monitored during this time. If they become symptomatic, they will be assessed and treated as appropriate.""
"It said the EU's Emergency Response Coordination Centre has arranged for a Medevac aircraft to be available in Tenerife for any passenger that becomes symptomatic and needs medical evacuation. "In the event that one or both of the Irish passengers becomes symptomatic before disembarkation, they will be medically evacuated on this aircraft"
The MV Hondius is expected to dock in Tenerife, after which passengers will be tested on board before disembarking. Irish health officials are coordinating with Spanish and EU authorities to arrange safe, socially distanced transport home for two Irish women. The Department of Health states the women are currently well and that public health protocols will be followed for certification and health assessment under oversight by the ECDC and Spanish authorities. Repatriation plans call for direct transfer from Tenerife to Ireland contingent on health status. On arrival, the women will be transferred to an HSE facility, quarantined according to ECDC guidance, and actively monitored. If symptoms develop, they will be assessed and treated, with a Medevac aircraft available in Tenerife for medical evacuation if needed before disembarkation.
