Chef Charlie Palmer and Santa Clara Valley entrepreneur Frank Leal organized the MOHI Food & Wine Festival, which returned for a second installment on Oct. 5 in downtown Morgan Hill. Palmer and Leal created the inaugural event to showcase the region's farms, restaurants and wineries with local and celebrity chefs alongside many winemakers. Palmer is building an Appellation Hotel in downtown Morgan Hill with Leal, slated for completion in 2026. A sold-out crowd enjoyed curated pairings such as Lion Ranch 2023 Grenache Blanc with Pt. Reyes cheeses and a house-smoked pastrami pastry; Twice Tyger 2023 Petit Verdot with short ribs by Bryan Voltaggio; and a char-grilled hangar steak paired with Harney Lane Zinfandel. Offerings also included grilled Morro Bay oysters, scallops, cedar-planked salmon and a sourdough tartine.
