"The word "coalition" is perhaps a little inaccurate here, as to be able to form a government in the Swedish parliament, a prospective prime minister has only to convince a majority of MPs in the parliament not to vote against their candidacy (it's called "negative parliamentarism"). So a "coalition" here only means a group of parties who are not voting "no" to a PM."
Opposition parties have led in every poll since the 2022 election, yet Social Democrat leader Magdalena Andersson still faces challenges forming a workable government. Poll-of-polls data through April 27 shows the Liberal Party at 2.7%, below the parliamentary threshold, which would give the opposition an 18-seat majority. A separate Demoskop poll from April 27 places the Liberal Party at 4%, above the threshold, and would reduce the opposition majority to 8 seats, making outcomes more uncertain. Interactive election widgets allow users to build governments or opposition groupings by moving parties and mandates. Swedish government formation relies on negative parliamentarism, where a prime minister needs a majority of MPs not to vote against the candidacy rather than a formal coalition.
